Albox is a typical Spanish town with narrow streets interspersed with small plazas. Despite its unspoilt charm, the town is not yet on the coach tour circuit, only three quarters of an hour's drive from the popular coastal resort of Mojacar and only half an hour from Garrucha. Don’t be put off by the approach from the motorway through the industrial zone, there are some delightful little areas just waiting to be discovered.
Located between the better known towns of Baza and Huercal Overa, the small town of Albox is flanked by the Sierra de las Estancias and the Sierra de los Filabres mountain ranges amidst stunning countryside of olive groves, orchards of citrus trees and dramatic hills and valleys covered mainly by almond trees. Several rivers and streams flow close to the town, including the rivers Almanzora and Albanchez which contribute to the area's rich agricultural heritage. The origin of Albox is medieval and the remains of an ancient fort can be found on a nearby hill. In 1503 it was destroyed by an earthquake and many of its historical buildings were lost. It has been completely reconstructed in its present location.
